i'm halfway through Bernard B. Fall's "Hell In A Very Small Place", a very detailed account of the Seige of Dien Bien Phu. Does anyone know if there were any films made about it, or using it as a backdrop ? I'm imagining that they would be French, but I have no idea. Anyone ?
As well as those mentioned in the link supplied by the good Captain, the opening section of Lost Command (1966) - IMDb is set during the final hours of Dien Bien Phu
Hi Billy
There's a fine french film, about a group of soldiers retiring in the jungle, just before the redition of Diên Biên Phu: La 317e Section / P.Schoendoerffer (1965)La 317e section: Amazon.fr: Jacques Perrin, Bruno Cremer, Pierre Schoendoerffer: DVD
I don't know if a dvd exists with english subtitles ...
Jacques Perrin who will later be in Les Demoiselles de Rochefort or Cinéma Paradisio and the producer of Microcosmos ...
...and a young Bruno Cremer ( Maigret, La Chair de L'Orchidée, La Bande à Bonnot, Sous le Sable...)

Jump Into Hell - 1955, pretty good film and US made with imported French and International stars. I have a copy on DVD
Many thanks to you all. There are more than I imagined.
There's another one directed by Pierre Schoendoerffer in 1992:
Diên Biên Phú (1992) - IMDb
with the two greats Donald Pleasence and Jean-François Balmer...

Dam, must track down that one!
Thanks, will deffo pick that up
And if you want to follow up how Dien Bien Phu may have affected the French Military (Lost Command etc) Pontecorvo's Battle of Algiers is spellbinding.
Nothing substantive here, just an ad hoc comment that "flicks" seems a bit too breezy a connotation for the subject matter!
