It was based on a well-known novel of the time and I suspect it was seen as vehicle for John Mills after his Tunes of Glory triumph. Mills is again in conflict with a more popular person - Mason instead of Guinness. The film is not of the same quality and even has Herbie Lom in oriental makeup ! Its not a disaster by any means but coming after the Ronald Neame film it is a disapointment.

The theme tune is very haunting and i still have my 45rpm disc of it.

Excellent and very affordable prints available on eBay from several Greek dealers. It's part of their British Cinema Collection. This one has the original English soundtrack with Greek subtitles that can be turned off. The end result is a full, original version of the film. Careful - some of the other films in this series have permanent sub-titles which unfortunately can't be hidden.

I've got a copy, and I'm quite fond of it. Mills and Mason are great, but Lom is quite grotesque as an oriental. Well worth a watch.

Tiara Tahiti - good movie, we had three copies of it on video a while back, but all gone now.
