Naw, just to make it harder, see if you can name 5 she wasn't in . . .

Seriously though - I was quite amused to see her crop up on tv the other day with an anecdote about making THE BEDSITTING ROOM (which, for anyone who doesn't know, is about post nuclear war Britain) during the the Cuban Missile Crisis. The director, Richard Lester, was so convinced that WW 3 was about to start that he almost told them not to bother coming back to work.

Yes, I saw that broadcast. But Rita made a mistake with the name of the film. She was filming THE LEATHER BOYS, directed by Sidney Furie, at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. And yes, director Furie was worried that WWIII might begin at any moment.

THE BED SITTING ROOM wasn't filmed until 1969.

Cheers,
Robert

'The Girl with Green Eyes' - Naive young Irish girl (Tushingham) meets much older sophisticated man (Peter Finch)! I persuaded my Father to drive me and 2 schoolfriends all the way to Watford to see this film because we were mad about Peter Finch! Great to read the original book by Edna O'Brien too.

IMHO, one of Rita's best performances.

I enjoyed reading Edna O'Brien's three 'Country Girls' stories as well, though they made me wonder if Edna O'Brien has issues with men, as every man in her stories is portrayed as a good-for-nothing drunkard.

She also wrote an Epilogue to her Country Girls novelettes in 1986. If you haven't read the Epilogue, please take my advice and skip it. Suffice to say that the lives of the two girls end badly. Best to remember the happier times of the early stories.

There is also "Situation" made in 1973 starring Rita Tushingham.

She's a woman isn't she?........

I wonder how she hit it off with Patrick McGoohan in 'The Hard Way'.
It appears to be her one and only acting role.......

I remember seeing her in the 1966 film The Trap with Oliver Reed and just watched her in the 1972 Hammer film Straight Till Morning with Shane Briant. I remember really enjoying her role in The Trap and thought she also turned in a good performance in Straight Till Morning...
