Can someone help me by explaining how the database works in the BFI, is it the same as the online version or has it a more detailed set of information. Say I want to know about a tv show and I type in its name, would all the holdings that the BFI have come up like articles or references in books. As I hope to go to it one day this information would be of value to me. Thanks for any help.

If your after TV drama then one of the Kaleidoscope guides might save you the cost of getting to and around London? They are one of the most accurate guides anywhere and are downloadable for about £30.
One for example listing every ITV network drama ever shown.
They tell you a huge amount about the programme as well as one of the most important things-whether it actually still exists or not.

There is a sample page to check out and if you see the dreaded J in the 'holding source'
it means junked and no longer exists. The other codes are film and tape types and are explained in the download.
