Default Who is the earliest living director of a British feature film

I think I know the answer to this. Who do you think it is? I mean living now, naturally.

Lewis Gilbert's first film was The Little Ballerina (1948) and Ronald Neame's Take My Life (1947) but this director made a feature film in the UK before then.

Judging from some careful wording in the question, I'm inferring that the director him/herself isn't actually British but worked here??

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

What makes you say that?

This person is the oldest as well as the earliest.

He produced more than he directed.

I'll have to study the question more deeply....... So the person is still alive..... He or she has to be possibly older than 98....... Manoel is the oldest "still active". Therein lies my error...........

He is also the oldest living person to have directed feature films. He was married to an film actress for over 60 years until her death in 1993.

If you Google 'oldest living film director', and similar phrases, you get people naming Vera Stroyeva (who I managed to discover passed away in 1991) or Manoel de Oliveira (when I can name two who are older than him, one being Jean Delannoy who turns 100 next month).

Let me say she was born in the same city as her husband of over 60 years.

The feature he directed in the UK was made in the 1930s but he later produced a UK / US co-production in the 1950s with a very well known director he collaborated with twice.
