Default Payroll (1961)

Recently received the R-2UK DVD "Payroll" (aka "I Promised to Pay")

Excellent heist/neo-Noir and DVD-transfer, but 1 question regarding the runtime:
Info DVD: 102 minutes (4% PAL speed-up); however the IMDB states UK 94 minutes and Germany 105 minutes. I missed something? There are deleted scenes?

At least I know the photo/still on the cover-art is not from a scene in the film.

Robert

The BBFC gives a time of 117 mins 47 secs when it was submitted to them but they say it was then cut before release but give no details of the cuts.
So your guess is as good as mine

Hi Steve,

Thanks!

The filmposters, and Françoise Prévost promoshoot from "Payroll" (rare):

.....

I presume the photo on the DVD-cover and on the 2nd movieposter is from a deleted scene.

Robert

An excellent film, which I, too, have just acquired. I would recommend it, as it is well scripted and acted and not predictable. I thought the characters were extremely credible. Quite violent in places, but it portrays real crime and the people behind it, from the hardened criminal, with little or no conscience, to the ordinary person, who probably thought it would be just like in the films. First class.

Payroll - is that the one that features a Bedford CA van in some scenes?

One of my favourite films, an extremely well made film. The best performance in the film for me is by Francoise Prevost. An excellent film which I highly recommend.

The original runtime was 117 mins, DVD 102 mins, so 15 mins deleted scene(s).
I am very interested in the scenes not on the VHS or DVD.
The cover-image is from a deleted scene?

If you like the "heist-Noirs", like The Killing, Rififi and The Asphalt Junge, you will enjoy Payroll aka I Promised to Pay !
