Hi, A couple of comments i would like to make on this great film. When Stanley Baker goes up to David McCallum's flat and he starts to dance is there not a bit of a homoerotic sub theme going on ?. Secondly i know the film is set in Liverpool but the flats where McCallum stays with his sisters and brother look very like those that were built at Quarry Hill in Leeds in the 1930's. Can anyone shed any light ?

Hi Johnny, I haven't seen this Film for many years, I don't think it's been on TV for a long, long time either, I would like to see it again though, I can only recall the scene where David McCallum is holding Schoolkids hostage, he forces one to look out of the window and his Mother screams.......I can't recall Stanley's 'Dance', though I can't quite imagine Stanley Baker doing any type of Dance!

Actually Johnny, its David McCallum's character, called 'Johnny', that joins in the dancing. He goes up to the flat with Baker (Sgt Truman) and finds Johnny's mates having a party. Johnny joins in, leaving Truman standing at the door, looking slightly disturbed (imho) by it all. The two younger siblings of Johnny's, the twins, are wedged into a corner, and its them who Truman has come to collect. It turns slightly 'sinister' when Johnny's mates egg on Truman to 'dance', and try to intimidate him, which he declines.
Hope that clears it up for you.

I have the film a few times over the years and have never even remotely thought that scene to be homoerotic .... IMHO it's just lads having a laugh while taunting a cop.

Hi, I was aware that it was Johnny doing the dancing. I thought that there was maybe a slight element of Johnny sexually taunting Stanley Baker or.......maybe i just have a lurid mind and see things that are not there
