Actually it depends on how you define "commercial success". Traditionally one view has been that anything Mr & Mrs Mid-West America don't understand is going to fail at the box office. But you could also argue that, if the main movie-going demographic is 16-25 males, the ipod generation is going to be different from those preceding it and their tastes more unpredictable.
I also think it's a poor or lazily expressed question (define "struggle"?, what is a "British film" in this context?) but you could have some fun picking it to bits.
