Default Some questions about Millions Like Us

I wonder if anyone can answer a couple of questions for me about "Millions Like Us." First, my American ears can't place the accents. Are we listening to a variety of regional accents, I assume? What's the accent Eric Portman has taken, and what about the girl who rooms with Anne Crawford?

Also, I can't make out the lyrics to the song at the end, past the first stanza or two (after which the whole audience joins in). Could some kind soul help me with the rest?

Many thanks,
Tom

Eric Portman is using his native Halifax (ie Yorkshire) accent. The song at the end (which is also briefly sung at the wedding party) is an old music hall standard, Waiting at the Church (so standard that MIss Piggy did it). Here are the lyrics

The rousing sing-song at the end of Milolions Like Us is one of my favourite scenes in British cinema.

"Waiting at the Church" was a popular song, and also features in I Thank You (1941) where it is sung in Aldwych Tube shelter in an altogether less emotionally satisfying manner.

Perhaps my favourite British muscial movie moment is Basil Radford drunkenly serenading a far from impressed Joyce Carey with a rendition of "The Old Mill Stream" in The Way to the Stars

"Made from peanuts, I suppose"

'Have a beer, Miss Winterton!' Yes, that's great, though Basil does get another excellent musical moment when he's the first person to join in with Jack Warner's Roll Out the Barrell in the Captive Heart.
