Default New girl in need of good advice!!!

Hello, i shall intorduce myself, i am an actress living in Leeds with a passion for watching and (starting) to write my own scripts. My favourite film is dead man shoes my favourite writer....shane meadows. I am struggling to find out where you can audition for brit films or short films for the festivals. Films like control which was out later last year??? Im wise to the acting world and done loads of commercial crap when i was younger so im not naive enough to mess up but i am finding myself a bit lost in the gritty world of brit movies !! Please help, any advice on where best to get my foot in, agents to see, places to go ect....

Confused and enthused

One way is to sign up to PCR - (Production and Casting Report) that's the actor's weekly bulletin which tells you what is in production or being filmed and who to send your CV to. You'll need to have a 10x8 black and white photo of yourself and a list of any acting work you've doen - this isn't necessarily essential in terms of experience - but the photo is.

Buy the most recent edition of 'Contacts' (published annually) which lists all the agents and producers. You can send them a CV but you'd be better off being in a play and inviting them along.

The best way is the first one - find out what's being made and send your cv to them; you may not get a reply but at least you'll be considered if your face fits.

I can't offer you any advice - there are plenty on this site to do that - but all I can offer is the warmest best luck for your future and here is looking for your name in movies.

Gemma, I notice that you are just 18 years of age yet you say 'I have done loads of commercial crap when younger! How young was thisThere are plenty of seasoned actors who don't or haven't made it in middle age - and writers. What is the rush?
I remember a famous pop group in the 60s who said they had struggled for years and years - the group were all under 22 years of age! I also recall Val Dunecan when told that he seemed very popular who replied 'yes, how to be an overnight success in 30 years

'You should be kind to us normals, there are not many of us left you know'!

I am and have always been eager to learn, i dont want to rush into the big time but i am so excited to meet great writers and work on new and challenging things, in this game there is always a thousand people right behind you waiting to take your job and i just want to be first in on the knowledge of auditions to attend, i am young i know but i pride myself in getting as much experiance as i can for when the time comes to really make a dint...become world famous....have a breakdown....go to rehab....go in im a celebrity....write a book....retire.

The last bit was a lie.

OK Gemma and good luck but a few of us have spent years chasing the rainbows and that crock of gold that usually turns out something else. Remember that bad experience are also teaching experiences and one needs these to be a good human being in the end - it is better than being a successful S O A B:!!
As the great Bob Hope put it; we are either drinking the wine or crushing the grapes

Another old cliche that deserves an airing is ... always be nice to those you meet on the way up, 'cos you're bound to meet them again on the way down.

I wish I had claws.

remember that the business part of showbiz is as important as the show..and to add to the cliche count
"its nice to be important but its more important to be nice"

Aitch,
I thought everyone knew everything there was to know about acting after two lessons at the local stage school and then a single appearance on TV. That's certainly how it often seems
