Mr Martin

This short film featured many of the events that took place in Southampton during the Coronation week of 1953. A Master copy of the film was placed in the Archives and still survives today.

However, does anyone have any of the rest of the footage that was taken during the making of the film. The surviving Master copy is 16mm but the original may have been 35mm safety film, as nitrate stock should have been discontinued by that time. I have not checked if the film was given a BBFC certificate but copies were made avaiable for local distribution shortly after the event. The existing film is silent, but there may have been sound recordings made for certain sections.

This is quite an interesting little film collecting together a variety of subjects - even Joan Collins makes an appearance signing autographs.

Maybe a film collector somewhere has acquired the rest of the footage ?
