Exclamation What Was The Last Kitchen Sink Drama
I was thinking of kitchen sink dramas in my office yesterday as one does and it a thought struck my mind that the last kitchen sink drama may have been,"Spring and Port wine release in 1969. "

Can anyone recall any other latter day kitchen sink dramas during this period.

Presumably when"The Family Way" was released in 1966 this genre had passed its peak, "Poor Cow came along in 1967, I have been racking my brains to think of others of this VINTAGE and I had forgotten about "Up the Junction."

The genre was in rude health at this time on tv of course with,"Cathy Come Home." and other plays that came under the "Wednesday Play" banner.

Early Eastenders maybe .... when it had aspirations to be a proper drama.

Pinter's The Homecoming. I found it engrossing but gruelling viewing.

How about Arnold Wesker's Chicken Soup with Barley? Mid 60s I think, part of a trilogy along with Roots and I'm Talking About Jerusalem. Kitchen sink dramas set up Norfolk way.

Also John Hopkins' Talking to a Stranger with Judi Dench, 1966.

Wesker's plays mostly appeared in the 50s. Not as grim as some but very down to earth and highly autobiographical. I was once in a production of 'The Kitchen' which is a great play.

Yes, you're right Bats, they were written in the 50s but I've got a feeling at least one of the trilogy was televised.

'Chicken Soup With Barley' and 'I'm Talking About Jerusalem' were televised in the UK the 60s. 'Chips With Everything' appeared on TV in the 70s. 'Roots' was produced for TV in the 90s. The Germans love Wesker, there have been numerous TV productions of his plays there.

I love 'The Kitchen', ensemble theatre at it's best. The service sequence is superb. The film version is pretty good. I'd love a copy of it.
