What a useful list that is, but like all lists one can always think of something to add. One film which I particularly like - maybe because I'm a fan of the novels of Nevil Shute - is Landfall (1949). Michael Denison is the star and not at all a bad war film it is too.

I didn't mean for you not to pursue your dream ..... what I meant was get yourself a stable financial base as well. You could regard the sarnies as a bit of a filler between scripts.

Not according to your IMDB summary.

"This is the tale of life in a British port in the first year of World War II. Spies and smugglers abound in the blackout and unreal shore life of the "phoney war" (before the shooting started). Written by Steve Crook."

I wish I had claws.

Thanks for the additions, Nick. Most of the obvious Brit films are on the list but I pruned too enthusiastically: there are additional lists for foreign films like Malena and Das Boot as well as US movies. Anyone know of other UK WW2 related films?

Cheers Captain,
oddly enough I have Carry on England on the menu for tonight. The other two I'll have to look up!

Get Cracking is Formby and is one of the few films about the Home Guard. Operation Bullshine has more or less the same plot as Carry on England though it has a rather more likeable cast.

Landfall does look interesting - is it available anywhere? I've added it, and the others to the list.
many thanks

Secret Journey was actually made in March 1939 and is a remake of a 1936 French film so shouldn't really be on the list

I can't find much on IMdb on Secret Journey. please see comments at the end of the post.

Here's a revision of the UK WW2 related list based on the comments in the thread.
I've excluded foreign films - should ones like Hitchcock's Bon Voyage be included? Some films have alternate titles e.g. Gift Horse. I also added some of the more famous contemporary documentaries at the end.
I do have a list of WW2 related TV, but it's probably nowhere near complete enough to form the core of a definitive list - one notable entry is the excruciating pilot for a 1990 (!) sitcom on Adolph Hitler and wife Eva with their Jewish neighbours: Heil Honey I'm Home. I managed about 5 minutes of it.
Anyone with more time (less of a life?) is welcome to the TV list, and the European/USA lists.
Please feel free to add/delete/comment. I'm still finding quite famous films which have been left out.

US films which are very British in focus or flavour could be added - I'm thinking of Mrs Miniver, The Pied Piper etc.

It could be argued that if the Last Reunion is on the list, what about the League of Gentlemen, It's Not Cricket, Carrington VC, Tunes of Glory, Separate Tables or any number of other post-war films which deal with events or characters influenced by the war? Then there are films like RAF or The Gathering Storm or Secret Journey
