Default British Film Serials.

Can anybody possibly supply a list of any film serials (cliffhangers) that were made in Britain, please?
I seem to recall one that was shown on tv in the 1960's, and featured an earnest, stiff upper lipped type gent in flying uniform (I think) who spoke directly to the audience, urging their interest in the next episode of the story. It already seemed quite archaic then, so I'm guessing it was made in the 1930's or 40's.
I've searched through lists of serials on the imdb website, but they are all american films.
Can anyone help? Thank you.

I started a thread about this recently and we came up with only one title .....

Dusty Bates (1947)

I have since discovered that there was a CFF sci-fi serial in the sixties .....

Masters of Venus (1962)

They appear to be the only Brit-serials ever made for the cinema.

I wish I had claws.

Made for TV in the late 70s but Dick Barton: Special Agent was certainly influenced by the cinema serials.

I like it too, but it wasn't a serial.

The first heyday of serials was around the time of the First World War....kicked off in France by the famous Feuillade serials for Gaumont; Judex, Fantomas, etc. Gaumont British commissioned George Pearson to devise a British competitor; his serials (Three I believe) starred Aurele Sydney as Ultus; The Man From The Dead, a shadowy figure fighting crime while seeking revenge on the man who left him for dead in the Outback. They only exist in fragments, but from what remains, they were crackers, and made Pearson's name in '10's Britain.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

I don't mean to labour the point donna .... but we're talking about cliffhanger serials like you watched at the cinema when you were a kid ... Captain Marvel, Rocket Man etc.

The ones you mention were on TV.

I wish I had claws.

Can Sebastian locate the plover's eggs? Will Anthony Blanche become even more louche? Will Aloysius pick up terrible habits from those Italian bears? Tune in next week to find out...
