I am not looking for this film on dvd, but does anyone rememember this version of Jane Eyre starring George S Scott, Susanna York and Jack Hawkins.

It was given a theatricral releae over here, but it was made for tv. Saw it when it came out in the pictures when I was elveven.

I was under the impression that this version was regarded as being a bit naff, but just looked up to reviews in Maltins guide and RT guide to films and the reviews were not bad.

At the time of going to see this film as a youngster I remember that there was a remake of Wuthering Heights. I have never seen this version, Harry Andrews stars along with Timothy Dalton and Judy Cornwall.

Saw this version last year Im sure on TV I liked it but then I loved Jane Eyre and George C Scott so I cant be swayed, loved him in the Changling too.

A great actor to my shame I have seen Patton, I have got to buy it on dvd one of these days.

Hadnt he a fantastic face , not handsome in the least but it mesmerised me , loved it.

There were a number of all-star literary adaptations made for American TV (usually Hallmark) given theatrical releases over here. Critical favour was against them at the time, possibly because of the all-star nature of them and the American TV connection. The whirligig of time often has its compensations and these films do seem to be finding favour now with the crits.
