Default Title of early 1960's crime/thriller?

A film I would really love to see again featured an international gang of crooks headed by the inevitably suave and measured leader. There's a scene where they are gathered for a meeting around a large table. Mr Suave announces that one of their number is talking out of turn to the police and any moment he will receive a telephone call naming that person. So the phone rings after which the gang are dismissed except for a large lumbering Canadian hulk with a 'tash named Johnny. Johnny anxiously asks Mr Suave who the grass might be but by now he's looking seriously anxious. Mr Suave smiles and asks, 'Are you feeling cold Johnny?' at which point a chap toting a flame thrower appears in the doorway and lets poor Johnny have it. I remember seeing this film at least twice on TV in years past and I would love to know the title. I would guess it may be a Butcher production or similar of that era - early 1960's. I can picture Johnny but can't put a name to him or any of the cast. Can anyone 'enlighten' me on this one?
Many thanks
Shaun

I think I may have seen the film, but, for the life of me, cannot remember it's title. I'm going to think about it. If memory serves me correctly, "Johnny" is taken down to a vault or wine cellar, where the flame thrower is used.

It is in the James Bond genre, although it isn't one of the Bond films.

Unusual name for a 'tash . . . Johnny!

I knew one called Wendy - but that's another story.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

It sounds like 'Kaleidoscope' (1966). Eric Porter was Mr suave in that one!

Great film made at Twickenham Studios, if I remember rightly, with Warren Beatty and Susannah York. I think Eric Portman played the Casino owner where Beatty had rigged the cards. Real 1960's film and very entertaining too.

I think you're right on that one. That explains why I remember it: I have a copy. Yes, a good film.

Thanks very much for the input chaps and hopefully I'll be able to locate a copy. Your previous comment Filmbuffuk, describing how Mr Suave led Johnny off to a celler or other room for a little chat certainly rings true - why torch a perfectly good conference room after all?

With thanks

Shaun
