Default Release Dates

Does anyone know of any good books/websites/anything that give reliable release dates for films?

I'm specifically interested (at the moment) in the British release dates of British films in the 50s/60s/70s and the Australian release dates of Aussie films in the 80/90s/00s.

Thanks for the link DB7 - great site! Interesting in itself, but it'll also help me sort out a rough chronology of the films I am interested in and clarify years of release.

But (!) - I am still looking for a source of actual release dates. Any ideas?

Have you checked The IMDb?

I think a good book for British film release dates is 'The British Film catalogue' by Denis Gifford, which covers the years 1895-1994.

Thanks Steve and Christopher

IMDB is handy for some dates but doesn't have all the ones I'm after, or usually it has a release date for Finland or somewhere but not the actual country where the film was made.

Will try and hunt down the Gifford book (didn't he write a good one about radio too?) as that sounds promising. Hopefully it might be knocking around the library service somewhere as I've just seen that they want rather a lot of money for it on Amazon...
