Post Operation Diamond
Hi,

Can anyone provide ANY information on a film named "Operation Diamond" directed by my grandfather Ronnie Pilgrim in 1948.

The imdb entry is here.

I'd really love to obtain a copy of any variety and maybe even re-release it!

David Quinlan's British Sound Films says :-

"After relating the details of the discovery of the world's largest diamond in 1905, the story develops into a secret mission to Holland during the Second World War, to save her stock of diamonds falling into Nazi hands. An English officer and a Dutchman between them manage to spirit gems away from under the German's noses. Little film stages its events with some conviction and excitement"

And rates it 3 points out of 6. Sounds interesting.

As it was released through Renown, you could see if Granada International are holding it.....

Hi,

Thank you both for the information. Any more anyone?

BTW why granada?

I've spoke to renown who don't have it.

Apparantly the BFI have "6x reels of 35mm Combined Dupe Neg which is restricted for photochemical preservation". This doesn't appear to be an option.

The now defunct digital TV channel CARLTON CINEMA used to screen lots of RENOWN titles (but not this one) , so I presumed that Carlton (now Granada) had them in their vaults....

Have you seen OPERATION AMSTERDAM (1958) starring Peter Finch and Fern Britton's dad?

The plot sounds very similar.....
