Question pools winner

What was the name of the woman in the 60's who had a big win on the

football pools? She was very flamboyant & spent the money very quickly.

There was a TV film about her in the 70,s or early 80's & the actress playing

her was very good indeed. The actress had a short career as I recall.

Sorry it's all a bit vague!

The pools winner was Viv Nicholson. She won £152,319 in 1961 (£5.5 million in today's money). She announced to the press that she was going to "spend, spend, spend"

There was an episode of Play for Today called Spend Spend Spend (1977). That starred Susan Litter who had a reasonable but not superstar level career.

There was a musical called Spend Spend Spend made about her in 1998. That starred Barbara Dickson.

Thanks Steve!

I checked on Susan Littler, she died tragically in 1982.

The Play For Today version of her life is excellent and well worth seeking out.

Just downloaded it last week co-incidently. John Duttine ( To serve them all my days) plays her husband and Liz Smith ( Grandma Royle) his mother, in a smaller role.
