Im assuming the film is partly British??...
Anyway,i used to love this Richard Harris trashfest as a youngster, but it hasnt been repeated on TV in donkeys or released on DVD.
I also have a sneaking feeling it maybe a load of twaddle if i saw it nowadays...I remember Jeff Wayne's music being quite nasty and dated (and that was back in the 80's when i first watched it)....

I enjoyed 'Golden Rendezvous' on television when I saw it years and years ago

It was filmed in South Africa just of the coast from Mossel Bay. Part of the funding for the movie came from the South African Government

If you are of a certain age, and hanker after all that was great about the seventies, then i'm sure you will still find The Golden Rendezvous enjoyable.

It did come out on video in the UK, its been on e bay a few times.

Not sure I've ever seen the film, but I recall reading the book when my hormones had just started kicking in and I seem to recall falling in physical love with the literally-described heroine, who had a face that was a "perfect oval", if my vague memory is not completely misleading me.

Funny how things stick with a person...........

This was on ITV about 20 years ago.

I remember it being a pretty poor affair despite featuring two actors I always find interesting - Richard Harris and John Carradine.

I have a copy and dremblewedge is right .... it is fairly dreadful. Moor's first physical love is played by Ann Turkel. Nice looks, shame about her 'acting'.

Bats.

Jingle bells Batman smells ... I heard that at school Daddy.

Did she have a face that was 'a perfect oval' ?

I think not.

A clear case of mis-casting

Harris did quite a few around that time which don't bear much scrutiny -

Highpoint
Triumph Of A Man Called Horse
The Last Word
The Ravagers
A Game of Vultures
The Cassandra Crossing
et al

I would include Orca but it does have the compensations of a fine Ennio Morricone score and Charlotte Rampling

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

Harris said in an interview he regretted making Golden Rendezvous and Cassandra Crossing. He said he only did them because Ann Turkel (his wife at the time) wanted to be a 'movie star' and kept badgering him to help her.

I think in general he was going through a 'meal ticket movie' phase. Always a commanding force in a film, The Field restored his reputation fortunately.

He always kept a suite at the Savoy so he'd have to keep busy...
