Default This Sporting Life 1963

why was helen shapiros name in the cast list as the nightclub singer when i checked with the fan club they told me she never appeared in that film. just curious to know how the film makers put helens name down as the singer and what is the name of the girl singer who sang in the film.

The IMDb only records her as "(uncredited)". Did she appear in the cast list?

The contents of the IMDb are submitted by film fans as much as film makers. They can make mistooks :)

Maybe it was a Helen Shapiro impersonator in the nightclub scene.

Well, I found a website which gave the full cast of the film (not IMDB) and right down the bottom as (uncredited) is Helen and furthermore they say she sang "Walking back to Happiness" in the film.

I don't know about full. Probably more like just the best information they could find after a quick scan of other sources (like the IMDb). I doubt if they trawled through the archives for things like pay-slips (often the only way to find out about uncredited cast & crew) for every film on the ScreenOnline site.

Anyway, the IMDb doesn't have Helen Shapiro listed for This Sporting Life (1963). If it was there then maybe someone convinced them that she wasn't in it & they removed it.

But I note that the IMDb does list Glenda Jackson as an extra and the ScreenOnline site lists her as "singer at party". I wonder if that was the singer that Scotty was referring to in the original post.

Well, if you want to see the thread I saw it is the 18th and last hit you get on page 2 when you input "this sporting life" and "helen shapiro" into the Yahoo search engine. The URL is:

www.allmov.com

Re Glenda Jackson, there is a small forum for the film half way down the main page and on the second of just 2 threads a chap writes that he recognized her singing around a piano the 3rd time he saw the film.

You're kidding, right?
www.allmov.com is in a chinese or japanese style pictogram script.

The trouble with the internet is that it just takes one person to say they thought it was Helen Shapiro in This Sporting Life and someone else will pick that up as fact and repeat it elsewhere.

It's the worst kind of gossip propagator. That's why the IMDb needs a bit more than "someone said so in a chat group"

Steve, I just ignore it when I get told (as in this URL) that I need to download some kind of stuff for japanese script. So, in this case, you do get a gobbledegook sort of page but all the info ( the full cast) was in clear English.

I guess we're just going to have to see the flic again and decide for ourselves!
