Ahhhhh....tthe great 'Mary Whitehouse nightmare' idea of the 'Red Triangle' season! Memories!
THEMROC caused a lot of fuss because of the cannibalisation of the Policeman. Others shown were "Jubilee" which is worth watching for the cast alone, especially with the 'now and then'look with Toyah. Hopper's directind effort "Out of the Blue". Hopper starring "Tracks", where the molestation of the woman on the bus caused trouble. I think "Sebastian" was also screened but with the hard-on famously cut off the bottom of the screen. Something they craftily 'forgot' to do on the excellent doc "Sex and the Censor". In reality, the odd scene aside, the films were nothing special in the explicit content stakes and were mostly dull and pretentious. I do fondly remember staying awake for them and craftily watching them on the TV in my bedroom though! You only have to look at the fact the much maligned and 'disgusting' Red Triangle films have alll since shown up on Ch4 as simply normal film transmissions, just like any other movie, to see how times have changed. |

I was about 15 at the time hence particularly interested in the promise of naked female flesh on TV! (kids these days don't know how lucky they are) I can't now remember many of the films - Tenue de Soiree was one I think. I believe they dropped the red triangle when viewers became disillusioned that it so rarely delivered the goods, so to speak.

Would it have been better if the red triangle could have been controlled by ourselves with a remote control. It would have been like the first video games in the pubs(table tennis). Trying to second guess where the first genitalia would appear and then dashing the red across to the offending scene. This would have the added advantage of being able to use it on politician's faces, djs who were boring and chidren on Blue Peter who were many, many times more intelligent than I was.
