While doing some research in Halliwell's film guide I found a reference to a 1950's studio called 'Advance'. Does anyone know anything about the studio and its output?

Are you sure it's a studio? Or is it a production company?
Advance Productions was the production company for that film The Happiness of Three Women (1954) that you were asking about.

Thanks Steve. Presumably Advance owned the rights. Do you know if they had much of a catalogue and who now controls it? Maybe Canal-Plus or Network? As you can gather, I am trying to track down the owners and a print of "The Happiness Of Three Women".

Canal+ and Granada have most of the British back catalogue between them.

There was another thread about Who Owns the Rights? where JamesM gave a very useful link to a BFI web page that shows how a lot of the rights to these films has changed over the years.
