I've been unable to find this on DVD. However, I've come across something called Raw Meat, which I think it probably the US version of this film. Does anyone know if it's exactly the same film?

If it's the one with Donald Pleasance as the inspector and Norman Rossington as a DS and made in the early 70s I think it is the same film. IMDB should be able to verify this.

Also a brief cameo by Christopher Lee. Memorable for a lengthy tracking shot that introduces us to cannibals underground retreat. The film was showing regularly on Sky a few months back.

Well, Raw Meat can be purchased on Amazon.co.uk quite cheaply - 5 or 6 squid. That shouldn't break the bank!

Hi there.

Raw Meat's director Gary H. Sherman later went on to direct rehabilitated "video nasty" Dead and Buried which I seem to be in a minority for actually quite liking. He also made Poltergeist which is genuinely scary and inventive up until the halfway point and then completely falls apart to an embarassing degree. Of interest is a 1982 TV movie called The Mysterious which according to some Fortean publications was inspired by two people who later went on to found the Heaven's Gate cult.

Cheers.

Iain

...and very jolly good it is too. It seems to have a lot more gore than I remember from its TV showings.

Yes, I thought that too - I wasn't sure my memory of it was poor, but I wondered if what's been on TV was the "expurgated" version or some such.

Loved DeathLine especially the scenes with Donald Pleasance who is hilarious especially when they get drunk at the pub. The title sequence and music is totally at odds with the nature of the film as well!

Another Dead & Buried fan (or traumatized victim) here.
A seriously creepy movie.

Be careful... if you buy from a us based distributor there is another DVD that goes by the same name 'Raw Meat' and is actualy a very 'different type' of film as I discovered when I was shopping for my copy. Order the wrong one and you'll probably wish you hadn't

Technically the US DVD varies slightly from the version I have on VHS from the UK, in that there seems to be a few edits here and there, but nothing that makes much difference.

This is my home, my ancestral hovel.

It's popping up on one of the Sky Movies channels this month.
