I used to be at school with a girl called Cybil Wileycock (pronounced coe). The poor headmaster would splatter her name out with such embarrassment that of course we all tittered like mad! As for poor Cybil, I expect she married as quickly as possible. Probably called Jones or Brown now.

My Dad had two sisters. They decided they didn't want to bear our wonderful surname. One sister married a Mr Smith and the other sister married a Mr Jones

Reminds me of the girls I knew in primary school... one was named Theresa Green, and another ( a couple of years our junior) was Theresa Brown.

Ah well I went to school with John Mills & Gary Cooper!
Yes, really

Not the actors of course, but the Mills family decided to name their son John after the actor and the Cooper family decided to name their son Gary after the actor. And we all finished up in the same class

The women's officer at a college I went to was called Gaye Wright.

It is rather apt to bring this name subject up with the passing of Dr Seymour Kuntz, the Seattle based gynaecologist!

We had a Theresa Brown in an office I once worked in, and a Theresa Green was a waitress at a retaurant I also worked in. Couldn't be the same ones could it? I once acted with a girl called Sally Forth and at school we had a Dean Martin, but best of all at school we had a Scarlett whose mum was the spit of Vivien Leigh. These days I often see a van go past our house with the words Gary Cooper Paving on the side. It always makes me smile.

In one town I lived in back in the 60's there was was a family called the Cummings a few streets away from us. Not so unusual - except that a few houses down from them in the same street lived Mr and Mrs Going. We knew both of the families and always mentioned them in the plural

At a credit union where I once worked we had a customer, of Chinese origin, with the surname of WANKA. True!
When he first came in for a loan interview I didn't know how to greet him, so I just called him "sir". I later found out that he pronounced his surname as Wonka - yeah right!
The best is yet to come though - Wanka was a friend to another one of our clients who went by the surname of FOOK YU.
I swear to you that it is a true story.
Can you imagine any unsuspecting person innocently asking either of the gents for their surnames and being hit by Wanka and Fook Yu ?

I also remember a Sylvia Knight marrying a Tom Day. Yes, you could say that Knight followed Day. After the marriage the wife chose to use the surname Knight-Day.
I see the same surnames were used for married characters on the TV series 'Kath and Kim' (Kath Knight and Kel Day) and it always makes me laugh.

Dave.

He didn't work in the finance industry by any chance?
Did you know that the collective noun for bankers is a "wunch" - as in "a wunch of . . ."

I once met someone who proudly introduced himself as a merchant banker.
I nearly said that I didn't think he would have known rhyming slang, but he was a client so I remained polite

I went to school with a girl called Aphelia.....surname Balls.

On a serious note, could it be The Legendary Sir Peter Ustinov. He starred in Blackbeard's Ghost which was a Disney movie, can't remember ever seeing Noel Purcell or Kenneth Griffiths in a Disney movie?

I can't remember Brian Blessed in a Disney film, but he was a great Prince Vultan in Flash Gordon.

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.
