Leaving the drinks on the bar for a minute and getting back to Edward Chapman - I got a copy of the spendiferous H G Wells/Korda "Things to Come" yesterday - and he's in it! Mr Grimsdale..... And also Mrs Pumphrey from All Creatures G and S (Margaretta Scott) is in it as well.

What a stunning film it is! Some tedious patches, but what vision! The trailer, included on the DVD, is a sight to behold - "Earth shattering" is the least of it!

...and also the story behind it's making is fascinating. I've acquired a small book about it, and the contracts were signed between Korda and Wells in a Bournemouth teashop, on the back of a postcard, over tea and sandwiches! This was something that Korda had occasion to regret, as costs mounted and Wells (no film maker) insisted on full artistic rights.

It is, in fact, Danny Ross...aka Alf Hall, as he appears in 'The Love Match' which also has a rare performance by Ronnie Barker's mentor, Glen Melvin.
Doris WAS right, but all kudos to Arty-Dave who spotted it in an earlier thread.
btw..I love Sam's Sandy Powell avatar. That should have had a few heads a-scratching.
It's Edward Chapman who played Mr Longworth in The Love Match.
