Does anyone know where I could get a copy of this film. I remember seeing it in 1955 or so. It had a haunting theme tune played by Eddie Calvert and this resulted in me having toy trumpet for Xmas that year!!
It's about two children(Colin Gibson and Lesley Dudley) running away to London to warch the Coronation. There are some wonderful old favourites in it, Sid James, Megs Jenkins, Patric Doohan and Peter Sellers as a PC. I would so love to see it again.

Blimey, that brings back memories for me too - I'm sure someone here will have it!

The beautiful theme tune, 'John and Julie', was a top 10 hit in the UK in '55. It's available on a cd, The Very Best of Eddie Calvert. 'Bout a fiver on Amazon.

It is, in fact, Danny Ross...aka Alf Hall, as he appears in 'The Love Match' which also has a rare performance by Ronnie Barker's mentor, Glen Melvin.
Doris WAS right, but all kudos to Arty-Dave who spotted it in an earlier thread.
btw..I love Sam's Sandy Powell avatar. That should have had a few heads a-scratching.

I never knew his face, only his voice as Alfie in The Clitheroe Kid.

I think you'll find Plastic, that the picture is of Glen Melvin - Danny Ross (Alfie Hall)m had a thick mop of curly hair and did a very convincing 'falling down' act. He seemed to have rubber bones. Check him out on IMDb.
If I'm wrong, I'll pop up to Scotland and but you a round of drinks!!!

Good morning boys.

I recently got a dvd copy of 'The Love Match'. I've always enjoyed this small film. I'm a fan of Arthur Askey anyway and I thought I'd put a few screengrab avatar's up to spark queries...but I didn't realise that we were only allowed one image at a time.
I still think we need to do more to bring the 'unsung heroes & heroines' of the Brit Film/Tv industry out of the shadows.
I shall now retire, open a packet of Pop-pets and enjoy 'Vice-Versa'.....now what did I do with that screengrabber?

Vice Versa? the 1948 version directed by Peter Ustinov and starring Roger Livesey, Kay Walsh, Petula Clark & Anthony Lewly I presume. A charming piece of work.

Have you ever seen the other Roger Livesey film Midshipman Easy (1935)?
With Roger as the avuncular Captain trying to keep an eye on the Midshipman of the title - played by a very young Hughie Green!

Most definitely. Well-judged performances from all, especially James Robertson Justice (all flaring nostrils), Harcourt Williams as the Judge and an astonishing feature-film debut performance from Anthony Newley in his dual role as Bultitude Senior and Minor. The film maintains an Edwardian Music Hall/Amateur Dramatics atmosphere that enhances the whole.

No, I've never seen this film though I read the book when I was a sprog. Sound like it's worth watching as I'm a big admirer of Roger Livesey's work my favourite performance being 'I Know Where I'm Going!'

I don't suppose for one second that anyone here has a copy of or has seen the original silent version directed by the great Maurice Elvey and starring the magnificent Guy Newall in the Tony Newley role?? Does anyone know whether it exists even??

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Okay, see you in the gutter about 3pm (thank goodness for all day drinking. It legalises my alcoholism).
