I am trying to remember locate the titles of two fims which I thought starred Joe Brown (of Joe Brown and The Bruvvers). IMDB doesnt seem to give me any clues.

The plot of one film was about a letter which had been posted and the attempts by the sender to stop the letter being received.

The other I am positive had Joe Brown as a fireman(?) on the railways. I think there was a catch line. 'Good Luck Driver Jackson.'

Forgive me if I have got the actor wrong.

The BTF homepage says that commentators thought that they suffered a decline in the same way (and at the same time) as the old cinema newsreels.

Shorts were still in vogue in the late 50s - Hammer Films made quite a few travelogues and jazz subjects. I recall our local cinema's last second feature being as late as 1979, so Joe Brown On The Railways might well have made it into the cinemas back then.

Your 'Driver Jackson' quote seems incredibly familiar - as does the letter themed film. I'll keep wracking the old brain...

Ah yes - that might be where I heard it ; they used to show them very occasionally as fillers in the good old B&W days of BRAVO....

The title is available on a compliation DVD from VideoBeat

Thanks Julian !

Can you possibly provide a link to the Videobeat item mentioned? I've had a look all around and can't see it. Also, I've never dealt with them before - are they a supplier you could recommend?

Many thanks for your help

Your wish is my command....

http://www.thevideobeat.com/store/product_...products_id=497

I haven't used them myself, but Diane (Blackwell) has and was happy with the service.

I have one or two of the SPIKE shorts somewhere meself, but as they were fillers, Gawd knows where....
