Question Clockwise

Having watched Clockwise starring John Cleese, was that the same car (Austin 1100) that was used in Fawlty Towers, where it had broken down and Basil fawlty was threatening it with a damn good thrashing?

Apparently, a quick look at imdb and his films in post production are all voice-over roles - also there's no "Q" in Casino Royale.

Hmmm, so it really is... what happened to John Cleese! Shame. I heard about him being jibed, rather negatively, by Terry Gilliam - whilst Cleese was in the audience. That certainly can't help.

Whoops! No hang on, he went to America to co-star in the remake of The Out of Towners with Stever Martin and Goldie Hawn Now that never helps ones career!

He also took the Evening Standard to court when they printed an article about him relocating to the US and appearing in a number of flops.

Personally, John Cleese never did anything for me in film roles. I thought Clockwise was not a great work and his cameo roles in all the US films and Harry Potter, Bond et al. make me cringe. He is one of those people whose name ( like Michael York) normally ensures it is a poor film.

I enjoyed Clockwise, but I felt it was too long and the ending was a bit of an anti-climax. I didn't like John Cleese as Q in the Bond films - he was still Basil Fawlty to me and he was certainly no replacement for the legendary Desmond Llewllyn.

Clockwise was a film I loved as a kid, but I agree that it's too long, now I've seen it a few times since.

It must be quite hard for comedians to stay consistantly funny, and outdo themselves in the space of their careers.

As I wrote in a previous thread, John Cleese released a DVD this month titled "John Cleese's - The Art Of Football"
Apart from himself it also starred Pele, Bono, Elton John and Nelson Mandela.

Dave.
