I have a copy of "Wages of Fear" obtained p2p but the text is predominatley in french. I dont recall this being the case when i first saw it. Can anyone tell me , has the film been released with a full english dialogue ??

When the WAGES OF FEAR was first released in the UK it was badly dubbed into English. The current DVD version is subtitled.

Warning - Contains spoilers

A stunning film with numerous memorable moments and set-pieces. The tobacco being blown off the cigarette paper in the man's hand by the shock wave of a distant explosion. The truck teetering on the brink of a cliff fall whilst negotiating a hairpin bend by reversing onto a rickety wooden platform. The crewman being sacrificed under the wheels of the truck in a swamp.

I've always assumed that Yves Montand's final careless and carefree drive on the mountain road, swinging the wheel to left and right, eventually losing control and plunging to his death in a ravine, was the all too obvious inspiration for the finale of The Italian Job.

For anyone who has not seen The Wages Of Fear I can only recommend that you do at the earliest opportunity.

WAGES OF FEAR had a full release on the ODEON circuit (as did several continental films in the 1950s).
Both dubbed and subtitled versions (for more literate neighbourhoods....) were made available...

Um yes - a bit thoughtless of me to quote certain significant plot devices - apologies.
