Default The Inspector

Hello all! I hope you can help w/this question. Am trying to find this title, " the Inspector," from a novel by Jan deHartog, I think the release date was 1959/1960 or thereabouts, cast included Stephen Boyd, Hugh Griffith and Harry Andrews (among others), but can't seem to find much definite in th usual venues. Also, was the filmscore (by Malcolm Arnold) ever released? Is the video available? TIA, donauwaelzer...

Many thnaks for the response, just occurred to me I probably should have posted this in, "name the film," but anyway, was able to google search, "Lisa," and that indeed is the film I had in mind. Has anyone seen this in video/DVD format? the last time I saw this film was probably 1972, but that was here in America, perhaps there's copies available in Britain? Also makes me wonder why not more biographical information here about Harry Andrews, Hugh Griffith, et al. They were such big screen presences in the 50's/60's. TIA, Donauwaelzer

The Inspector, a 20th Century-Fox CinemaScope release in Color by De Luxe, was released in the UK in June, 1962. It was produced by Mark Robson and was directed by Philip Dunne and starred Stephen Boyd and Dolores Hart and the music was composed and conducted by Malcolm Arnold. A really superb and now mainly neglected drama, it has, like many other Fox films of the period, never been issued on video in the UK and hasn't even been shown on UK television since 1975, 28 years ago! Although no soundtrack material was issued on disc at the time, two versions of the main theme were issued on singles in the UK, by Ferrante and Teicher on HMV 45-POP 1028 and by The Wayfarers on Decca 45-F.11473 (both long since deleted). As far as I know, the film, retitled "Lisa" for American audiences, isn't available on video in the US, either, as a quick check on amazon.com or Movies Unlimited will show.

more's the pity. As I remember, a really well done drama, competently written, memorably acted and superbly scored, but as was said, many of the fox films from this period haven't made it to video and were equally engaging. I wonder if e-mailing would help and if so, to whom?
