Default British Science Fiction Films 50s and 60s

I've decided that my new DVD collection vice should be collecting British science fiction films from the 50s and 60s. Recent additions include Woman Eater and Earth Dies Screaming (good print on Sky at the moment). Having been a fan of these films since the early 70s I'm nevertheless surprised that titles crop up that I've never heard of. Today from Amazon I've ordered Devil Girl From Mars and The Strange World of Planet X, I'd never heard of either of them before. What else is out there on DVD or not?

Many thanks in advance

I suppose obvious additions to your collection would be the three Quatermass films and the two Daleks films.

Was the subject of an earlier site poll here:
http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/br...tion-film.html

I particularly enjoy those 50's and 60's b-movies like The Night Caller and especially Unearthly Stranger.

Thanks for the opportunity to put in a plug for Village of the Damned (1960), a good interpretation of John Wyndham's The Midwich Cuckoos novel (the only major flaw being a shortfall in the number of creepy kids). Then there was the 1963 sequel Children of the Damned (I don't believe this was based in any way on John Wyndham's unfinished and unpublished sequel novel Midwich Main).

I am reluctant to suggest the duff 1962 Day of the Triffids but some people like it - maybe they haven't read the excellent book?

Pip
aka John Wyndham bore!

PS - all three films mentioned available on retail DVDs.

Quatermass and the Pit (1967) is one of my favourite British sci-fis. I love Terence Fisher's The Earth Dies Screaming, and also recommend his two other sci-fis from the same era: Island of Terror (1965) and Night of the Big Heat (1968). They are both available on DVD from DD Video.

Gonks Go Beat has some marvellous convertible cars that are driven up and down a disused? airfield runway and include a Chevrolet Corvette, an Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III, and the rarest of the lot, a 1965 Chevrolet Impala, right hand drive, assembled in Canada. It's worth it for the car scene alone! Oterwise a weird film I thought!
