She probably thought the torture scene was a bit tame compared to the version she read in the book years ago.

Yes we do!

According to a Palace Official at the time 'Her Majesty wishes to increase the scope of her charity engagements to cover the widest possible field, and does not really want to be tied to going to one particular engagement every year"

It probably clashed with a Quatermass climax.

Is that what the Duke called it?.....

Is that for real Capt ? It was the only one they ever didn't have, it would seem, until the recent Brick Lane debacle.

Yep, it's from The Times, 23rd April, 1958. Page 10. A 'similar decision' was expected about the Royal Variety Show.

The Queen Mum attended the Horse's Mouth in 1959. In 1960 Phil, with the Duschess of Kent and Princess Alexandra got stuck in a lift at Buckingham Palace and were late for the show. The Times - always the best for royal gossip!

The Royal Film Performance often gets confused with Royal Film Premiers! There have been many film premiers where a member of Royalty has been in attendance, again usually charitable events but they are premiers in the true sense whereas as Steve Crook mentioned the Royal Film Performance was not usually a premier or opening night for a film. We could always start a thread about film premiers where Royalty was in attendance.

October 1924, The Marble Arch Pavilion; in front of Their Imperial Majesties George V and Queen Mary; a Premiere programme consisting of Zeebrugge, the first Bonzo animation, and finally a newsreel of their Majesties arriving at the premiere. IIRC the first time reigning monarchs attended a cinema premier in the UK, as opposed to private viewings at palaces. In aid of a Naval charity, also attended by Admirals Lords Beattie and Jellicoe, and survivors of the Zeebrugge action.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Default World Premier of Disney's Story of Robin Hood

This is a similar subject. Can anyone on here help me find out which London cinema held the world premier of Walt Disney's Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men. ?

It was held in the presence of a young Queen Elizabeth II on the 13th March 1952.

I would be grateful for any information.

The Royal Film Performance is also an event celebrating film in general, not just one film. I've never been to any myself but I have quite a bit of information on the 1946 Royal Film Performance of A Matter of Life and Death. The film itself was just a part of the evening's entertainment. As well as the various receptions and cocktail parties, some in the cinema itself and some at other locations nearby, there were also stage performances by a lot of film stars, often performing scenes from their latest films.

And it was all in aid of the Cinematograph Trade Benevolent Fund, the film-makers' own charity that supported people who had worked in the film industry (in the UK, for at least 2 years) and had fallen on hard times
