Perfectly possible to father a child at 13.

But Brambell usually played well above his real age - Albert is meant to have been in WWI!

What impresses me is that he did this without much make up.

Harold, by the way, actually gets 7 years younger between the 60s and 70s versions. In the 72/74 episodes, he is meant to be 7 years younger than Harry H's actual age.

Coronation Street is full of it. Pat (Elsie Tanner) Phoenix 26/11/23. Phillip (Denis Tanner) Lowrie 20/06/36 and Anne (Linda Tanner Cheveski) Cunningham born 1937. All Possible yes, but add nine months and still very, very illegal.

Not that that would have worried Elsie. Though Mrs. Sharples probably would have had plenty to say about it.

Anyone else remember that Elsie Tanner got younger-looking as the years went by. In 1960 she was plump, rather drab dresser with a french pleat hairdo that never changed - estimated age somewhere in her 40's. By 1970, she had lost a few stone, was wearing mini-skirts (quite fetchingly) and was obviously visiting the hairdresser regularly - estimated age mid-thirties!

Forgive if we've had this before...

John Mills is four years older than "dad" Wilfrid Brambell in the rather excellent Flame in the Streets.

Off topic, I know, but I found this interesting...

John Standing (who, until today I thought had died years ago - sorry John!) is the same age (77) as his mum-in-law, Nanette Newman. I wonder if wife, Sarah (52), ever feels left out at family gatherings when the "oldies" get talking?

At the weekend I went out with friends one of which has an eighteen year old boyfriend. The conversation had to be punctuated with explanations of any reference over 5 years old ( e.g. No John Major wasn't a Labour PM, Who Mrs Slocombe and Joan Collins were ! and what a trolley bus was).

    The perils of a toy-boy

It may look good to have a much younger person on your arm, but conversation can often be difficult when you don't have the same frame of reference.

I remember Elsie's reverse ageing very clearly.
