I have to give a talk on the subject 'Cinema on Cinema' ie films about Cinemas. There are two which immediately come to mind:

'Cinema paradiso' and 'The smallest show on earth' Could anyone suggest other films which would fit into this category? Thanks.

    Peeping Tom (1960)

[Mark Lewis has a small private cinema :) ]

    Singin' in the Rain (1952)

    [More about film-making]

    Last Action Hero (1993)

    The Last Picture Show (1971)

I think the question relates more to film projection, Peeping Tom does have its private cinema. The only other film I can think of is "The Magic Box" (1951). "Nickleodeon" (1976) deals with a film company that makes films but being of a time when the film companies were also exhibitors, so maybe this could sldo count.

Maybe Richard Attenboroughs "Chaplin". Its about Chaplins life, but gives a good idea about forming companies in the early times of cinema.

Steve Martin's Bowfinger. There's also a Welsh-language film called Coming Up Roses.

There was a cinema and scenes filmed in the projection room in The Family Way, made around 1966, with Hywell Bennett and Barry Foster as projectionists.

Although not British THE MAJESTIC (2001) starring Jim Carrey involves the local cinema.

Many Jean-Luc Godard films are self-referential, but the daddy of them all is Le Mepris which features a great scene in a screening room with Fritz Lang and Jack Palance.
