    My wife and I watched this film on T.V. today and she said it was very similar to a Catherine Cookson book she had read. Even the names were the same.

    Any comments? I told her if anybody knows...

    John Gregson did a couple of Irish set Cookson adaptations; Rooney and Jaqueline.

    Yes, Jacqueline (1956) was based on Cookson's novel "A Grand Man" and Dame Catherine contributed some dialogue to the film as well.
