name='sippog']Did you know that the collective noun for bankers is a "wunch" - as in "a wunch of . . ."![]()
I once met someone who proudly introduced himself as a merchant banker.
I nearly said that I didn't think he would have known rhyming slang, but he was a client so I remained polite

On a serious note, could it be The Legendary Sir Peter Ustinov. He starred in Blackbeard's Ghost which was a Disney movie, can't remember ever seeing Noel Purcell or Kenneth Griffiths in a Disney movie?

I can't remember Brian Blessed in a Disney film, but he was a great Prince Vultan in Flash Gordon.
What about Noel Purcell - that fine Irish/Jewish actor?name='sphinxvictorian']Hello all! I'm a complete Britmovie nut! So glad to have found this forum to come and chat on! Some of my favorite Britfilms, in no particular order, are Persuasion, Topsy Turvy, I Know Where I'm Going, The Red Shoes, all the Merchant/Ivory films, Brief Encounter, Carrington, Cold Comfort Farm, etc. I love British character actors, and I pride myself on knowing their names and spotting them in obscure appearances in film, TV and on stage.
I am looking for the name and possibly a picture of a British character actor, active from the 40's through the 60's, I think. I seem to remember him showing up usually as ship's captains and doctors and growly uncles and that sort of thing. Usually sported a beard, somewhat bristly, and had wonderfully expressive eyebrows, I seem to remember. I think he might have shown up in a Disney film or two, and possibly a Powell/Pressburger film or two. Possibly even in a David Lean film from that period.
I have checked IMDB. I thought it might be Hugh Griffith of Tom Jones fame, but it definitely wasn't him. This is driving me crazy, and I do hope someone can help me. Aargh!
Thanks,

name='sippog']In one town I lived in back in the 60's there was was a family called the Cummings a few streets away from us. Not so unusual - except that a few houses down from them in the same street lived Mr and Mrs Going. We knew both of the families and always mentioned them in the plural
Now that reminds me Of Mr Pooter in "The Diary of a Nobody" they were also Cummings and Goens. This caused Pooter much mirth as they cropped up frequently during the diary.

My schoolmates Albert Hammond and Harold Heggs appeared next to each other alphabetically in the school register. When teacher was doing the roll call each day there were sniggers when he called out 'Hammond, Heggs' dropping the 'H' (this was of course in the North of England). Those brave enough would quietly repond, 'And baked beans'!.
I have to say simply from reading sphinx's description, JRJ sprang instantly to mind. Although I wouldn't necessarily have thought his eyebrows were the main feature.
