In the film, there is a scene where John Lennon walks through a building site with an attractive girl, twice putting his coat over puddles so she can walk over them safely. Then when he does it at the third puddle the girl disappears down a pothole which is underneath. Much laughter and hilarity etc.

Who was the actress in the scene?

The Macca Central site suggests that it was Ringo, not John, on their page about This Day in Beatles History on the day that they filmed it. But it doesn't mention who the actress was.

It's confirmed by other sites, like one with the screenplay, that it was Ringo. That might help you track it down.

I've had a gander at the scene (yes, it's Ringo) but can't put a name to the face. I wonder if any specialist Beatles websites are your best bet.

If you do find out elsewhere, don't forget to put us out of our misery Cully !

If it's any help, this was the very final scene to be filmed for the movie, although, of course, it doesn't appear at the end of the picture but part way through. I know it was shot at Edgehill Road in West Ealing on Friday 24th April 1964, but am still having no luck finding out the actress's name. But it was definitely Ringo, not John, doing the Walter Raleigh bit. Hope this helps?

Thanks, everybody. My suspicion is that it's Laura Thurlow but....I may just have a thing about her because I also wrote to this forum with a similar query re Doctor in Love not long ago and I thought THAT actress was Laura as well!!

Why don't they publish proper COMPLETE cast lists somewhere?

Why didn't they publish one at the time that we can use now?

Many older films, even ones as recent as that, only listed the stars either on screen or in the publicity material. Unlike modern films where they list everyone, even the tea lady & her dog. That's why the credits sometimes take half an hour to be shown. Nobody reads them, except the parents of said tea lady & her dog, but it is useful for researchers that they're there.

At one point in - I think - the sequence where the band members are being asked fatuous questions by journos at a reception, I could swear a young Patricia Routledge has a fleeting walk-on. Just my imagination?

Well she's never mentioned it when I've met her.

But it's possible. She was a jobbing actress at the time and was doing a few "young girl" walk-on parts.

Nice bit of oneupmanship there, Crooky!

Actually, by sheer coincidence, I spoke to a name actor last Sunday who goes to the same church as I do.Daniel Hill, who explained in some detail how much work went into the Tiscali Broadband advert he did recently and which is currently showing on television. They had him in the studio from 8 in the morning until 5 in the evening doing the thing over and over again, from different angles etc. Anyway, I had only spoken to him to get his confirmation that the woman with him in the ad was Tilly Blackwood....it wasn't, it was Ruth Gemmell which only goes to show how easy it is to make mistakes...

By the way, is the magician seen briefly with his white doves Derek Nimmo?

    Yes, that's him.

He's listed in the IMDb entry as Leslie Jackson (magician) (uncredited)

Apologies if I've asked this before (I probably have) but does anyone know if they shot any other musical numbers for either Help or Hard Day's Night which did not make the final cut?

Remember the scene where Ringo with blonde in tow places his raincoat over puddles so that she doesn't get wet?

Who was the girl? She is not credited ANYWHERE before you ask.

No, batman, it wasn't. The problem is she wasn't a big name or famous actress in any way...

mmm....thats a tricky one. there was a cast and crew reunion (40th Anniversary) a few years ago that involved a private screening of the film, maybe she was there! Didn't George Harrison meet his first wife on the film, she had an uncredited bit part, could it have been her? This is possibly a question that only Ringo or Richard Lester could answer, or someone closeley associated with the film. good luck!

Yes, that was Pattie Boyd but I would recognize her easily.

I did try and get an answer from Beatles websites but....no luck

She was a vaguely familiar face from bit parts in 60's flics generally playing barmaids/slavegirls/girlfriends..

Pattie Boyd was a blonde in the railroad car music clip. She was not the blonde that drops into the street, but I've seen her name listed on a similar query years ago.

No - it wasn't Camille, either. You guys are sooo bad.

Yes,Christine, that was me airing this same query years ago and saying I thought it was Laura Thurlow! I've just looked at the little scene on YouTube and I STILL think it's Laura but....how to prove it??
