For radio spinoffs you have Bandwaggon and ITMA and Hi Gang and what about The Huggetts?

I remember seeing the 1972 movie spin-off of Father Dear Father starring Patrick Cargill on its first release and even then noticing that the film looked grainy as though it had been blown up from a smaller sized film to 35mm. Makes one suspect whether this was actually a feature film version or a cut-and-paste job using footage from the television show.

The "Carry On" films went on to be a regular "Carry On The Prisoner of Spenda" etc. Arthur Askey's film "Band Wagon" went on to be a regular Radio series. Not sure if those are of any help!

It was the other way around for Band Waggon (1940). It was a film made from the popular radio series.

The Prisoner of Spenda was an episode in the series Carry on Laughing. There have also been many TV clip shows made from the Carry On series

Oh yes! Nearest and Dearest (1972): Oooh I must get a second hand for that clock... He knows you know... Have you been? Bloody Nora!

    Those were the days.

name='Sgt Dudfoot']Certainly was, in 1977. It sees the cast on holiday in the Costa Plonka. It was ok if you liked the characters.

And was just an expanded version of one of the TV episodes where they are forced to stay at the Store overnight because of a mass transport strike.

They obviously hadn't heard of taxis....

Ordinary people didn't use taxis in the 1970s. They were comparatively much more expensive and the public transport was (usually) so reliable.

    au contraire

Ordinary people did use taxis, just not as frequently as they do now. But the premise of the entire staff staying in their workplace overnight, rather than club together to get a taxi does seem ludicrous.

Mind you, there wouldn't have been an epiosde without this premise

I briefly worked in a shop in the 70s, we couldn't have afforded to club together to walk home!

    Steve's right!

If you used a taxi in the late 60s, early 70s, it was either because it was Christmas, New Years or you were a "toff"!

Does anybody have copies of the 90 minute repeats of The Office Christmas Specials (Ricky Gervais) or the ITV sitcom Moving (Penelope Keith)? I'm happy to trade. (They're movie length, anyway....)

Down Among the Z Men(1952) is a spin off from The Goon Show - and the only one with all four Goons. Pretty dreadful though...

The Case of the Mukkinese Battlehorn (1956) is closer in spirit and has some Goon characters - but only has Milligan and Sellars from the Goons.

For my money, The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film (1960) and The Bed Sitting Room (1969) are the true carriers of the GS flame.

Is the Please Sir! film the only UK sitcom spin-off which has events in it which are referred to later in the TV series itself? Hedges meets his future wife, Penny, in the film and she later appears in both the original series and The Fenn Street Gang.

Of all film spin-offs from TV shows, I can only think of this one and some of the Star Trek films that are actually consistent and continuous with their TV versions in terms of plot development and back-history of characters.

Not events, but, I think in the Dads army series they have mentioned how and why a the couple of the characters joined up which has related to the film.

I don`t think Steptoe or son have ever mentioned that Harold had been married before, which I find a bit strange if you relate it to real life. Especially when you think about Harolds `I could have been...` ponderings.

In the radio series Crook's Tour (and it's filmed version), Caldicott finds Romance and when we next meet him, in Millions Like Us, he is complaining about his wife spending too much time with Czech officers
