That situation has been addressed over the past few years and many revisionist books and movies of The West's famous events have been produced and 'Native Americanised' .... often to the detriment of historical accuracy .... especially with regard to Custer.

Good one .... he is the only tights and cape wearing one so far.

'The Tomorrow People' brings to mind Tarot in 'Ace of Wands' ..... 'The Champions' is also a good call.

I thought the Green Cross Code man came before Prowse's role as Darth Vader... and that the makers of the Safety Advert thought about sacking him because of his movie role... Mmmm... I'm off to see if I can cross check my memory on that...

EDIT 1... I can now confirm my memory that the Green Cross Code man came before the first 'Star Wars' movie. The Green Cross Code man started for Prowse in 1975 (though the campaign started in 1971), whereas 'Star Wars' was first released 25th May 1977 (USA) and 27th December 1977 (UK).

EDIT 2... I've just given up trying to confirm that the Green Cross Code guys thought of sacking Prowse following the release of 'Star Wars' because they thought his playing the villain could have had an adverse effect on the road saftey campaign. He wasn't fired, of course... but I'm absolutely sure there were news reports about them considering doing so. So I'm not able to confirm that. I'm sure my memory is correct though.

Amazingly, Dave Prowse was the Green Cross Code Man for more than ten years, it was definiteley before his Star Wars films, I was being a tad ironic in saying he got the part on the back of Darth Vadar!!! It was more likeley the other way round! Prowse is a staggering 6ft 7inches, he must have looked even scarier to the other members of cast and crew on set of Star Wars, apart from the "Dog" maybe! (chewb...

Ahhh. I have difficulties with sarcasm... I tend to take it seriously - lol

I understand that George Lucas approached Dave Prowse because he had appeared in a small role in 'A Clockwork Orange'. He was originally asked to play Chewbacca but didn't fancy another masked role so turned it down. Then when offered the big baddy... he accepted before he read the part, not realising it was another masked role - ROTFLOL.

Poor Dave Prowse... when Vader was first eventually unmasked... Sebastian Shaw appeared. lol.

They didn't even tell him that he was Luke's father before he saw the finished 'The Empire Strikes Back' at the premier... Prowse was a bit leaky to the press... and so they hadn't let him know and had given him false lines while acting the role.

I seem to remember a bit of a scandal regarding Prowse's role as Darth Vader affecting his credibility as The Green Cross Code Man!! I have always thought that the actor who gives Darth Vadar most of his power ( no disrespect to Dave) was the actor who provided the voice, James Earl Jones. Dave provides a physical presence by filling the suit and he moves well and is a tall scary figure, but I have always thought a more fair description of the role would be to say " Dave Prowse and James Earl Jones as Darth Vader" ! Jones is just ever mentioned in regard to the roll, and not too many people would be able to name him as the voice of Darth Vader.

I totally agree. Presumably George Lucas would agree also... because...(SPOILER) only Jones was invited back for 'Star Wars III: The Revenge of the Sith'.

Are you trying to imply that something inappropriate has been going between me and The Boy Wonder?

That's well out of order, I mean, what could have made you think of such an idea ......

Crikey, I thought Superman snogging Alfie was shocking enough ( Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve in "Deathtrap") but this is just too much to take in on a Sunday afternoon, I am absolutley mortified, better have a nap to recover!!

Hmm, I seem to recall that the Green Cross Code Man didn't do much apart from hang about on the kerb (!) telling children how to cross the road. I don't recall him flying or anything like that. I therefore nominate Mr. Neutron from the last series of Monty Python. I recall he was guilty of a "peony severance".

Superheroes are not required to fly!! As Batman and Robin used to say at the beginning of the TV progarmme "Remember kids, we cannot fly!" just in case any viewers thought about jumping out of an upstairs window with their home made batman suit!! Tragically, some did! I think the Green Cross Code Man still has the edge, he was saving lives for gawds sake, the lives on innocent children!!!
