How about 'Sapphire and Steel' - I hated that series... but would they count as Super-Heros... or are elements disallowed

I think James Bond qualifies even though he relies upon gadgets (so does Batman)... the problem is that our Superhero's don't tend to wear masks or capes.

How about the Tracey boys from 'Thunderbirds'.

Or as, suggested earlier in this thread... 'Captain Scarlett' - absolutely a British superhero... a man who is indestructable.

One could add 'Judge Dredd' - even though the movie was rather poorly made... he is a British-created Superhero... thank IPC Magazines.

I hate Judge Dredd ... crap comic, crappier movie. Definitely the good Captain (Scarlet) .... he is my son's favourite, in both his incarnations.

From the early 70's Lion comic....excellently drawn strip. Adam was a medieval alchemists apprentice; when the alchemist created a youth potion, Adam drank it, and caused the lab to burn down; the dying alchemist cursed him to eternal life, only to be killed by a weapon of solid gold......a bit like Highlander but without all the beheadings.
Having established that we have no British Marvel-style superheroes, i started to imagine what they would be like if we did...and the memory came of a running sketch in early Harry Enfield shows, called something like the League of Justice, four British superheroes; I forget Harry's character, but he was the one who wielded The Mighty Suword of Dobber; another called Ice Man, a third played by posh totty Nathaniel Parker in a costume Brian Eno would have rejected in 1972, and a woman....well, Feline Cat-Woman-type Thing I think she was called, who always saved the day by coughing up a furball, or by doing some oral grooming thing that cats do...great fun, or has everyone else forgotten it (Like Nathaniel Parker has, one suspects)

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

I wasn't very fond of him also... although I liked the 'Judge Death' series. I preferred other '2000 AD' characters, but I don't think any others have advanced onto film.

If one is not talking about the movies... then there have been many British superheros...

Dan Dare. Captain Klepp. The Spider (an absolutely excellent Super Anti-Hero, darker than Batman). Wolfy Smith. The Strontium Dog (a mutant).

I could probably list more if only I had been more into comics as a boy... but as it is, my family could only afford to buy me one a week... and that was '2000 AD'.

I read about 'The Spider' in the waiting room while waiting for a hair cut - I forget which comic he appeared in... Ah... after a quick search... He appeared in 'The Lion' and 'Vulcan'. I would have been reading 'The Lion'.

Here's his picture...

Wikipedia have a list of British superheros... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:British_superheroes

Mind you, going back to Dan Dare... there was a CGI TV series featuring him.

What about Paper Boy, Milk Man and Post Man?

That's pretty heroic, delivering in all weathers.

I truly apologise, Batman, my post was meant as a light-hearted joke, I didn't think it would lead to the outing of my son's favourite superhero

You can reassure your son that the Bat is all man .... Boy Wonder and I were in on the joke and simply posed for the picture .... there was no actual lip contact.

Batman, I can see you are on a journey, you started this thread in a desperate attempt to find others like yourself, British ones at that! Believe me the world is a far less hostile place for people like yourself than it used to be. Good luck to you, you are indeed a superhero.
