Default John Boorman

One of my favourite Boorman films is "Hell in the Pacific" Im pretty sure the first time I saw this on TV the film ended with a stray missile crashing down on Marvin and Mifune inside a derelcit building, suggesting that they both die.I have been informed there is an alternative ending that sees the characters simply stroll ot of the building and stare at a sunset without the missile landing on them. Has anyone seen that version, does it exist?

It definitely exists. If you get the DVD that's very likely the ending you'll see.

The IMDb says that it's the British version where the bomb/missile kills them both. In the American version they just walk off into the sunset (or get drunk and walk off in separate directions arguing)

Be a bit of a pity if there isn't a DVD with the British ending on it. I love downbeat endings, they're almost always superior...

Unfortunately the only current DVD available is a region 1 issue... which is highly unlikely to have the British ending. You can still get hold of copies of an old UK PAL release... but scandalously its pan and scan 4:3... which is very detrimental to how John Boorman filmed the movie - which paid special attention to using the widescreen frame.
