I grew up with the books of Edith Nesbit and I am wondering: Does anyone know of any films of her books besides "The Railway Children"? Any television series or specials? I thought the version made in the 1970s was excellent - with Jenny Agutter. I saw a more recent version, made a few years ago, that was also quite good: from what I recall, she played the mother this time.

It would seem that those books would provide fine material for films: especially "The Story of the Amulet" (my personal favorite) and "The Phoenix and the Carpet". I know the fantasies may be more challenging to film, but after Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and JK Rowling, I would think there would be a large audience for them.

    Also, the Bastable adventures.

(I don't know if she is still popular as an author in Britain...?)

A few are in print and ever-popular, several are out of print. I wish her ghost stories were collected and available, the few I've read in anthologies are scary and brilliant.

FIVE CHILDREN AND IT was filmed recently. There have been various versions of PHOENIX for film and TV, and THE TREASURE SEEKERS was televised recently. Check her imdb entry -- it's not complete but it gives an idea.

The original RAILWAY CHILDREN is the best adaptation of hers I've seen.

    Thanks for the information.

It looks like several of the stories were made into television shows.

It does look like my two favorites - "The Enchanted Castle" and "The Story of the Amulet" - have not yet been filmed.

As a side note: most of her books are in print and sell quite well in the US.

The television version of The Enchanted Castle is tremendous though.

"The Enchanted Castle" was made into a series? Now that would be worth looking for....unfortunately British television series are far more difficult to locate than films.

I remember one with stone gods who came to life, would that be it? I've only read a few of the books, but I seem to remember from my childhood that was based on something by EN. I remember it being really good.

My four year old found The Book Of Beasts at the library; for the last 2 weeks it's been her favourite read. Does anyone know if it was made to film or tv?
