name='torinfan']He dies in "Sands of Iwo Jima." Good war film, too, if you like that genre.

Yes, it is considered one of the better WWII films out there. It is also considered to contain one of Wayne's best performances. While he'd have to wait until "True Grit" to win the Oscar for Best Actor, his performance in this film would earn him an Oscar nomination.

name='GRAEME']Hey! There may be folks out there who haven't seen Sands of Iwo Jima and didn't know the Duke died in that! When is discussion of a movie a spoiler? What's the statute of limitations for plot point discussions?

Then they shouldn't read a thread titled John Wayne's Deaths!

This is a thread about John Wayne's Deaths and to discuss the end of a fairly new film not directly related to the topic is a spoiler in my book.

Giving away the end of a fairly new movie in a thread about John Wayne's Movie Deaths caught me off guard and has spoiled the film (which I have sitting on my shelf waiting to be watched) for me, especially as I deliberately avoided reading most of the press about it.

There is no statue of limitations on plot point discussions, but no one was discussing plot points about ****. You just listed the fact that ***** died in **** out of the blue 'as a contrast' to the thread topic.

    Sorry about that folks.

But there have been a large number of articles in newspapers and elsewhere discussing this film and I just thought it was well known.

For my money it is how he dies not that he dies that is of interest in the movie. So it is well worth seeing despite all that. Like, King Lear is still great even though you just know it ends in tears.

But that notwithstanding: unreserved apologies to all.

I've removed the references to you know who and what. I also was looking forward to seeing the film without knowing how it ended.
