Just thought of another American one - Cocoon (1985)
I was going to mention that one ...you beat me too it.....

Dustin Hoffman cogitating on Anne Bancroft at the bottom of his pool in "The Graduate"...

Another obscure Australian film features a priest at a public swimming bath...where he gets up to no good.....but can't remember the name....

Anna Paquin. does a fair bit of swimming pool antics in "Darkness"....

    Cheers

Can anyone remember a film of the late 70,s Featuring Sarah Miles, and Billie Whitelaw. That had a scene set in and old style swimming baths?

One of the reasons I remember this film is that I was surprised to find that both Miss Myles, and Miss Whitelaw, along with Patti Love, bared all for the camera.

I also seem to recall Blue Murder At St Trinians (1957) had the St Trinians girls in a swimming pool.

Hammer film's Crescendo not the greatest of their thrillers but the swimming pool in it is more than just set dressing and it does boast Stephanie Powers in her bikini and the excellent Jane Laportaire out of her's.

Thanks for this Sgt Sunshine,It may be that I was confusing Billie Whitelaw with Vanessa Redgrave, who I see is listed in the cast.

Having turned 50 last week I think the brain is showing signs of old age ( Ha Ha).

    Thanks once again my Friend.

Edgar Wallace film Accidental Death features a pool-death, by electrocution, not drowning.

Having moved to a new flat in Peckham I am 200 yards from the site of the old Peckham Lido which featured in the early reels of the Joe Orton film Etertaining Mr Sloane.

On a less literary bent there was a swimming pool in Holiday on the Buses but I have never seen that film (honest).

That Pool was at a Pontins holiday camp in Norfolk, I think there were several Pontins in Norfolk, so I don't know which one it was, anyone?

Both ReelStreets and BusesonScreen put the Holiday on the Buses location as Pontins@Prestatyn (North Wales)

Does the title of the thread refer to public swimming baths (i.e local authority) or swimming POOLS as in Beverly Hills? Or do we just dive in with suggestions?

When I first posed the question I meant Swimming Baths as we would understand them in this country although pools have come into the discussion. It was the creepiness of the empty swimming pool in Runners that started me thinking about the use of the baths as a film set but dive in any way you like although keeping it to Brit films is the aim

As a kid I spent lots of happy times at Finchley Swimming Baths (open air), I think it might have got featured in a Pathe Pictorial or something similar but I can't remember it being used for a film so much the pity.
