There were only two channels on UK TVs at time and not that many films were being shown. The agents probably thought they were doing their clients a favour insisting on a flat fee.
That's interesting and, as you say, quite possibly true. However, £7000 is still appears to be a very small fee for 1978.

On the extras for Halloween (also 1978) Debra Hill says they tried to get Christopher Lee to play Loomis but they couldn't afford him (she doesn't mention how much his fee was). So they went for Donald Pleasance who offered to do it for a fraction of his normal fee. They paid him £20,000.

The same year Steve McQueen asked $3m to do Apocalypse Now. He didn't get it!

Inflation doesn't seem to have meant much to Peter Rogers. Rogers I guess would see the cast as an ensemble rather than individual star name who could sell a film.

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

Just got the complete set of Carry On's here for 15 quid, no moans there.

For me it's very easy to watch such great classic comedy movies from my childhood. But here it's a little difficult to transend the double meanings, can't spell entendre, as double meanings do not happen to often here and then it has to be explained. So you can imagine having to stop the film and explain what was said. A 90 minute movie would last 4 days.

But hopefully with my boys, they will see funny side of Carry On as I am training them up with all good things from UK comedy, Only Fools, Rising Damp (now my good lady likes that), Will Hay, George Formby, Lenny Henry, One Foot In The Grave, Norman Wisdom (the boys are begining to like Norman and keep asking for seeking man, meaning skiing man - from the opening sequences shots of The Bulldog Breed), Dads Army, Fawlty Towers, On The Buses and so many more, plus lots of excellent drama series as well. Tv here is real crap.

The best Carry On for me, Constable. It was one of the earliest and was filmed around my former home town of Ealing, so it's a little bit of an Ealing classic, but not quite.

Sorry Batman I just kinda find that funny and it may look a bit crude but still funny.

There's a lot of dignity in that, isn't there? Going out like a raspberry ripple.

I like Carry On Cabby the best and the scene from Carry On Constable where Williams and Hawtrey are in drag - Ethel and Agatha or something...
