Camping & Screaming both good. Carry on England - absolutely dire. Most unsuitable actor? - Patrick Mower!! Kenneth Connor, Windsor Davies and Jack Douglas were over the hill by then too.

What an absolute shower! Be seeing you!

It's never advanced beyond pre-production. I presume funding isn't in place to green light the project so all they have is a tentative cast and crew.

My Grandfather worked as chief projectionist at the Regal cinema in Stirling Scotland in the fifties and earned £10 per week which was considered an average wage, a coalminer earned about £20 per week which was considered a very high income. My mother worked in a factory 9-6 5days per week for £4 per week, women never got paid as well as men in the good old fifties! I would say £750 is not too bad, thats about 18 months wages for a chief cinema projectionist.

Carry on Screaming....frying tonight! aka "Carry on Hammer" its got to be the best, I remember going to the cinema to see this as a kid and being scared!! Charles Hawtrey's take on a toilet attendant is hilarious, how did they get away with that stuff, and what about Odd Bod? the fact that Fenella Fielding is using those creatures for her own sexuall gratification disturbed me as a kid and still does! I used to bump into Fenella Fielding in the eighties at the bust stop outside the Coronet cinema in Notting Hill Gate, I was a student at the time and encountered her there often enough to strike up a conversation! She was still wearing the make up from Carry on Screaming and seemed to be still in character or so I thought until I realised that is what she is like in real life! very eccentric and rather scary. Quite a surreal situation for a young lad from north of the border to be standing at a bus stop chatting to the woman who had disturbed me all those years ago in Carry on Screaming!

I only have one single 'Carry On' movie in my extensive DVD collection... and it is unlikely that I will ever add another to it.

There is only one 'Carry On' movie I would care to watch again and again by choice...

'Carry On Screaming'. Positively brilliant... and minus Sid James... and plus Harry H. Corbett.

Is that a Freudian slip I detect there?

Carry on Cowboy - thats my favorite from the best years of the series. All the regulars there excepting Babs but you do get Angela Douglas instead - no complaints there.

As for the talk of another 'new' Carry on they should forget - the series was a particular group of actors, director, writer and particular era and you can't replicate it. 'Columbus' should be warning enough to anyone trying - feeble script and no real ensemble playing which I think helped make the films what they were - a repertory company on film giving ensemble performances. 'Columbus' featured actors who were 'stars' not ensemble players.

har har, what a carry on, yes I guess it must be a slip, imagine if we all used that double entendre carry on speak all the time in our day to day lives , the world would be a much better place,

I love the Carry Ons to pick a favorite is hard for me.
'Carry on Screaming' is an absolute classic and can see why its everyones favourite. So a couple of my choices apart from the above would be 'Carry on Loving' and 'Carry on Girls' but i must say the 'Carry on Columbus' revival film was an utter waste of time and celluloid, what were they thinking!

Default The "Carry On" Films

What are the "Carry On" films?

I was looking at Wearysloth's list of British films (very nice and helpful list by the way....) and I recognize the vast majority of them, even though there are many I have not seen. But there are more than twenty titles starting with the term "Carry On", and I must admit I did not recognize a single one!

I would assume that almost everyone on this forum would be familiar with them, as there are so many.

After looking them up on the web, it is clear they are all comedies. It is surprising to me that I have never seen even one of them in the US; British comedies are very popular here. Perhaps the humor is considered to be specific to Britain?

Do they all share the same cast and basic tone? Would you say they are worth seeing?

thanks,

Tim
