    Daily Telegraph

    Nick Allen, Los Angeles:

Has Bond survived another close shave?

The beleaguered Hollywood studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is close to sealing a deal which would allow Daniel Craig to return to the screen as James Bond.

Wrangling over the fate of the debt-ridden studio had thrown its plans to make new films, including the next 007 adventure, into disarray.

The 23rd Bond movie had been due for release in 2012, the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of Ian Fleming's spy in DR NO.

The producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, said earlier this year that work had been halted indefinitely because of uncertainty about MGM's future. MGM's problems also cast a shadow over plans to film THE HOBBIT.

The studio is now on the verge of a deal with Spyglass Entertainment, which was responsible for films including THE SIXTH SENSE and MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA.

The deal is expected to go through within days and Spyglass would be likely to concentrate on pushing through the Bond and Hobbit movies.

MGM owes about £2.5billion to around 140 creditors. It is currently in the hands of a consortium, which includes Sony, Comcast and several private equity firms.

Its library consists of around 4,000 films including BEN-HUR and THE WIZARD OF OZ.

Hi, the early James Bond films which I've not seen for some time have all gelled together in my mind so I've a couple of questions...........

Which James Bond film was it where a woman is walking over an indoor bridge over an indoor pond, the bridge collapses purposefully, woman is then mauled by piranha fish, and who was the actress?

Which James Bond film is it where there is a car transporting aeroplane on the runway?, I've heard it was Southend airport, but unsure which film it actually is, cheers.

I think the first one is "You Only Live Twice" and the woman is Osata's p.a. Not sure about the second question.

I wonder if you're thinking of "The Man With The Golden Gun" where a car (with Britt Eckland in the boot) sprouts wings and takes off.

The Man with the Golden Gun.

Which also had this stunt. . .

Oh for the days when Bond movies had truly unique gizmos & stuntwork rather than the generic 'thrills' of the Daniel Craig films.

Beautiful, busty German actress Karin Dor as Helga Brandt (Mr. Osato believes in a healthy chest) being eliminated by Blofeld and his lethal tropical Piranha fish in You Only Live Twice (1967)

A classic Bond scene, where the person who expects to be eliminated is reprieved, whilst the other is unexpectedly and brutally executed by Blofeld.

Unless you're thinking of Octopussy, in which Bond is towing a horsebox which contains an Acrostar jet plane?

The transport plane scene that was filmed at Southend Airport featured in Goldfinger - it's the scene where Bond follows Goldfinger and Oddjob to Switzerland just after their game of golf.
