Default Saturday Night Out

Came across this one in my collection from1964.
The Beatles were offered the chance to appear in the film, but the producers were reluctant to pay the train fare from Liverpool. Another Mersey group, The Searchers, who happened to be in London, appeared instead. Also starring Bernard Lee, Francesca Annis, David Lodge, Nigel Green, Heather Sears.

Urban myth I think. The Beatles were never considered for this one and at the time of filming they were undertaking a major tour and recording and living mostly in London.
The Searchers were first choice - and a very good job they did of it too!

When ever I think of Bands featured in films, I think of the Searchers in this film and also the Zombies in Bunny Lake is Missing. These are two enjoyable films especially Bunny Lake that really does evoke the sixties.

Another one that springs to mind are The Mindbenders who appeared in the 1966 film To Sir With Love.

In Robin Hardy's The Fantasist a character goes into a pub and Level 42 are playing in full TOTP mode. Very amusing. Which band appears in Blow Up, is it The Yardbirds?

Bats.

Another film that springs to mind just now is of course Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush from 1967, where The Spencer Davis Group are playing at the 1967 Great Big Bed Event.
