Default The Magnet - Pure nostalgia

THE MAGNET - a great film for nostalgia buffs - as mentioned earlier. Has lots of Merseyside footage - Mersey Tunnels (when you could cycle through them) - New Brighton beach and fort. The open air swimming pool (memories of childhood day trips). Although I'm a Greater Mancunian, many of the Merseyside locations bring back memories - even the Crawford's Cream Crackers van that Fox hides in seems very familiar. I'm not sure whether Liverpool itself did actually feature that strongly, I've a feeling that Birkenhead may have featured. Perhaps someone more 'in the know' could enlighten us. Even for those who don't live in the North West and don't recognise the locations, the film's story line can still entertain and provides an insight into life in those days. I have it on VCR and it gets a regular airing (along with Askey's 'Love Match' and Douglas's 'Lonely Are The Brave').

Alan Bleasdale's Boys from the Black Stuff which ultimately influenced Auf Wiedersehen Pet, I guess could be construed as a series rather than a film.
He did however write a one-off play as part of the series named
" The Muscle Market", which starred Pete Postlethwaite and Alison Steadman.
This episode which was shown on TV originally in 1981 as a 'Play for Today'was never include on the DVD version of the above.
It was by far the best story and was in parts simply hilarious.
As far as I know it is unavailable.
Wondered if any of you kind gentlemen could help.

Not a film but I did like the tv series Liverpool One.

I did hear sometime ago they were making Series 3 but not heard anything at all on that apart from Samantha Janus filming some scenes for it,but as I say that was a long time ago.

Hmmmmmmmmmm a good thing I never mentioned Brookside........OOPS!! I just did.

Not really Liverpool but Southport, 20 miles and a day return on the train, was the location for two quirky films. Norman Wisdom in What's good For The Goose with a topless Sally Geeson and the excellent film Mr. Love.

Ferry Cross The Mersey (1965).

Great soundtrack for a great time.
